12th Lok Sabha Election 1998
|
The importance of 12th Lok Sabha election 1998 can be understood on some additional ramifications which others didn’t have. Lok Sabha election 1998 was planned hurriedly as the previous one, 11th Lok Sabha had very short life of merely one-and-a-half years for which the country was still not ready. The decision for Lok Sabha election in 1998 was taken due to the political turmoil in the country.
As the minority United Front government led by the then Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral lasted for merely 18 months need for 12th Lok Sabha election 1998 became an ardent necessity. There was no other option except conducting the Lok Sabha election 1998 as the previous government formed in 1996 had collapsed due to differences in the coalition parties. Lok Sabha election in 1998 was the historic general election in a span of two years that the country had to face due to political differences and misunderstanding of top brass leaders.
Interestingly Lok Sabha election 1998 too couldn’t elect a single party to govern the country. 12th Lok Sabha election 1998 was therefore similar to that of the previous one. The statesmanship of the leaders winning Lok Sabha election in 1998 couldn’t prove charismatic though. It too had similar fate and the reelection was in the clouds. The Lok Sabha election 1998 had remarkable success in some extent as it had stability which was not assumed at that juncture.
Finally the 12th Lok Sabha election 1998 had its steering and it was constituted on March 10, 1998. The outcome of the Lok Sabha election in 1998 was not a single party majority hence a coalition led government was destined. With this Lok Sabha election in 1998 paved the way for the BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee to lead the coalition as prime minister of the country. Lok Sabha election 1998 was conducted peacefully and no cases of violence were evidenced.
A new government was formed with the conclusion of 12th Lok Sabha election 1998 but its span was only for 413 days that is shorter indeed.
